Chapter 5 – Little Girl, Big Mystery
West of Talash lies a kingdom of the desert, the Kingdom of Stellaverce. Aurelia was born as the youngest princess of Stellaverce. The current king ruling this desert was suffering from an illness and wanted to determine which of his children was suitable to inherit the throne as soon as possible.
At 14 years old, Aurelia was the first to withdraw from the succession struggle, stating, “I am too young to become king, and the burden is far too heavy.” However, Aurelia was a mage possessing vast mana and was also a sharp-witted child. Because of this, rumors whispered in the shadows that “despite saying she withdrew, she is secretly aiming for the throne,” and tragically, her brothers and sisters, with whom she had been close until then, came to view her as an enemy.
One day, an assassin attacked Aurelia’s sleeping quarters. However, the assassination failed; the assassin was sliced apart by Aurelia’s magic and died. But the true identity of this assassin was none other than… her brother, Dietrich, who was two years older than her.
“Aurelia let Dietrich into her room late at night and treacherously attacked him.”
Her two older sisters, who rushed to the scene immediately, shouted this in unison. Aurelia should have been surrounded and captured by soldiers, but that did not happen. Knights who adored Aurelia stood in their way, declaring, “The Princess would never do such a thing,” and fought desperately to let Aurelia escape the royal palace. Aurelia, along with a small number of guards, fled into the night desert.
Although they managed to evade their pursuers in the night desert, once dawn broke, the pursuers would chase them down on sand vehicles. It was only a matter of time before they were caught and killed. That was when one of the knights said—there is a forest perfect for shaking off pursuers—and pointed them toward the woods south of Talash.
The party entered the woods and, as planned, succeeded brilliantly in losing their pursuers. If they continued south and reached Loray, they could use the sea route to escape to another country. However, the party was unable to leave the woods, and Aurelia lost her life there…
