Chapter 14: Song Zhen’s Unique Sword-Riding Style

Elder Liu was close to losing his mind watching the disciples Song Zhen had “corrupted.”

“When is the Sect Leader coming back? If he doesn’t return soon, the sect is going to be in chaos!”

No elder present had an answer.

The entire Mystic Cloud Sword Sect was now split into two factions: one focused on traditional sword techniques, and the other obsessed with the bizarre, tricky moves Song Zhen had invented.

Of course, the elders preferred tradition—but the younger disciples loved chaos. The younger, the more likely to cause trouble.

Some of these new moves were downright outrageous. If they were used outside the sect, the reputation of Mystic Cloud Sword Sect would be in tatters.

But the elders’ concerns didn’t bother the disciples one bit. They had found joy in these unorthodox techniques.

Some even fully agreed with Song Zhen’s philosophy:

“Junior Sister Song is right—being too upright with your enemy won’t get you anywhere. All that matters is winning!”

“Exactly! And I feel like I’ve finally found my own path. My cultivation has improved so fast, I think I might be ready for Foundation Establishment soon!”

Seeing this, Senior Brother Bi, responsible for mentoring them, almost collapsed.

Did no one care about his feelings? All these disciples were “corrupted” under his watch. If word got out, his entire reputation would be ruined!

Bi’s biggest daily worry was being dragged off to the Discipline Hall, because these little troublemakers caused chaos constantly. He was responsible for teaching them, after all.

So every morning and night, this was his primary concern.

Looking at this group of mischievous monkeys, Bi took a deep breath and shouted, “Everyone, quiet down!”

“By now, your basic skills should be solid. It’s time to test you properly.”

Bi had already suggested to the elders to take the disciples down the mountain. No training compared to real combat.

There were some low-level demons that could be used for practice. Recently, Liu Village had reported strange occurrences—apparently caused by demons of low cultivation.

The sect planned to send someone to handle it, but Bi had a better idea: let these new disciples handle the demons themselves.

The moment “a real test” was mentioned, the disciples’ faces lit up.

“I’ve been waiting to go down the mountain!”

“Finally, we can exorcise demons!”

“Time to show those demons what we’re made of!”

Song Zhen nearly flipped the table in excitement.

Ji Fan sighed deeply at her impulsive behavior. “Calm down. It’s not that big of a deal. Why so excited?”

Song Zhen: “Not a big deal? This is my first time going down the mountain to exorcise demons! First times are always the most memorable!”

She had never seen real demons—only on TV. But what was shown on TV was fake. This time is the real deal… and she was officially part of the righteous cultivators.

“No, I need to bring more things; I have to show off my elegance,” Song Zhen thought, feeling that this was yet another great opportunity to make a name for himself.

Ji Fan watched her like a headless chicken. Your “elegance”? What elegance? Stealing peaches or poking people in the throat?

This trip down the mountain was indeed serious. The elders even held a special meeting for the disciples.

Elder Liu said sternly, “Everyone outside must follow the instructions. Never try to show off when facing danger. You know your own abilities, and if anyone loses their life because of recklessness, you will bear the consequences yourselves.”

Hearing the elder speak this way, some people finally felt the knot of excitement in their hearts settle.

This was truly not something to take lightly—every mission carried risks, and some could even cost lives.

“Although a few Golden Core Stage disciples will be assigned to protect you, you must handle everything yourselves. They will only step in if you are in danger.

This will be the first real test for all of you. Once you reach the Foundation Establishment Stage, you’ll be able to gradually form your own teams and take on missions by yourselves.”

The elders didn’t spend much time giving these instructions, but every word was delivered with utmost seriousness and solemnity.

By the time they descended the mountain, everyone had fallen into a thoughtful silence.

Except Song Zhen, flying on her sword, enjoying the scenery to the fullest.

She had finally mastered sword-riding. Before, she could only see it in dramas or games—now she was experiencing it herself.

Everyone behind her watched, jaws wide opened.

Senior Brother Bi blinked, stunned. “Junior Sister Song… your sword-riding style… it’s different from ours?”

What he really wanted to ask: How are you not cutting your butt on that sword?

Although Song Zhen was wielding only a wooden sword, riding like that would probably still cut her thigh—let alone that the others were using real swords.

The two Golden Core senior brothers didn’t know how to respond, mainly because in all their years, they had never seen anything like this.

Some disciples were even eager to try and imitate Song Zhen, but they were stopped by the quick-eyed and quick-handed senior brothers.

“Learn what? Don’t even think about it! Do you think this is something you can just pick up?”

“Just because she can do it doesn’t mean you can. If you accidentally cut off your own… you wouldn’t even have a place to cry!”

This wasn’t something anyone could casually learn—especially for them as young men, it was simply out of the question.

Along the way, they also encountered quite a few passing cultivators. Song Zhen’s head-turning rate was literally off the charts—so much so that one cultivator, after passing by, even turned back and passed by several more times.

Song Zhen: “…Senior Brother, you really don’t need to be so deliberate about it. If you want to look, just look!”

The cultivator smiled awkwardly. “Junior Sister, your sword-riding is… unique. But aren’t you worried about cutting your thighs?”

Everyone else was waiting for her answer. They were curious too.
