Chapter 26 – Why Are You So Excited About Someone Else’s Match?

Elder Rong’s words stunned everyone into silence.

Song Zhen and her group, who had been eavesdropping at the door, couldn’t help but have their eyes light up.

How had they never noticed before that Elder Rong was so handsome and responsible? Truly, the elders who defend their disciples are the most impressive!

The other elders had wanted to argue, but couldn’t come up with any solid reasoning.

This wasn’t a big deal—it was just a little manipulation of mindset. You can’t forbid someone from eating! Maybe the kids just had big appetites and came early, while their disciples went late.

The elders had been rebuffed by Elder Rong, scolded in the process, and left fuming.

Back at their sects, the disciples were in trouble: they missed breakfast, complained to their elders, and ended up seeing the elders themselves get scolded. If anyone was going to get unlucky, it was them.

Song Zhen even sneaked over to watch the commotion.

The elders’ scolding was pretty intimidating—though they didn’t utter a single curse word, educated people sure knew how to make you feel miserable with their words.

Compared to that, Sword Sect was straightforward: say what you mean, do what you say. No twisting, no indirect literary phrases.
It wasn’t that they were uncultured—they just didn’t like the flowery way of speaking.

The trials that day went faster than yesterday, especially for the Foundation Establishment group. Song Zhen’s position as the top contender was practically guaranteed.

As for the other senior disciples, their performances were also solid.

After defeating her last opponent, Song Zhen immediately went to cheer for her senior brothers and sisters.

A certain disciple in tattered clothes on the other side froze: “??? You’re leaving? Aren’t you going to say something?”

He couldn’t help shouting after her: “Junior Sister Song, don’t you have anything else to say to me?”

When she competed against others, even if she defeated them, she would usually analyze their strengths and weaknesses. But with him, there was nothing.

Song Zhen lifted her head and studied him from head to toe.

Just when he thought she was going to say something nice, her next words made him wish he could crawl into a hole and disappear.

Song Zhen: “Senior Brother, your physique is really impressive, and your abs are very beautiful—definitely commendable!”

She genuinely meant it. This senior brother had perfect lips and teeth, a strikingly attractive male appearance.

Dressed, he looked tall and slim, hiding the well-developed muscles underneath.

This was a “clothes make you look slim, take them off and wow” kind of body—and Song Zhen admired it.

A music sect disciple with charming, good looks, a strong body, and excellent skill? If this were modern times, he’d be a top-tier rising star.

Others watching were puzzled. Only this senior brother’s face went beet-red, even the skin on his body flushed.

He shouldn’t have asked that one extra question! Now he wanted to disappear.

And this Junior Sister Song—did she have no shame? Praising a man’s physique so openly in public… Were Mystic Cloud Sword Sect disciples really this bold?

Back at his sect, his senior brothers teased him mercilessly.

“Seniour Brother Liu, your physique is impressive—you got compliments from other sects’ junior sisters.”

“Who would’ve thought that someone usually so skinny and weak could be hiding such strength?”

“Yes! Since your body is in such great shape, what was all that pretending to be sick and weak in front of me before? Now you better give me a proper explanation!”

Song Zhen had no idea one compliment could cause so much chaos. Her attention was fully on her seniors now.

Watching the matches on the board, she almost wished she could jump in, especially when she saw someone nearly injured her senior brother. She wanted to scream.

The opponent didn’t use overly aggressive moves, and nothing was against the rules. But still, her senior brother adhered strictly to a gentlemanly style.

Song Zhen was frantic in the audience: “Senior Brother, now’s not the time to be so gentlemanly! Against demons, your chivalry won’t save you!”

Her senior’s eyes flickered—he felt helpless too.

Despite what she said, he couldn’t bring himself to harm his own people or use hidden techniques. Years of upright education couldn’t be undone in a day.

In the end, he narrowly won. The opponent lost, but he wasn’t unscathed either. Song Zhen nearly shouted herself hoarse, but he ignored her advice, sticking to his gentlemanly ways.

Fortunately, the other senior brothers and sisters were clever. Even in defeat, they performed gracefully, avoiding serious injuries.

Elder Rong, seeing Song Zhen so worked up, assigned two people to hold her down.

He genuinely feared she’d leap onto the stage—she hadn’t been this excited even during her own matches.

In the final battle for the top spot, both sides were locked in a tense stalemate.

The surprise, though, was that both contenders were disciples from the Mystic Cloud Sword Sect.

You had to admit, the Mystic Cloud Sword Sect really was a dark horse this time. Once the disciples’ cunning grew, their strength skyrocketed.

Elder Rong’s wrinkles practically reached the sky from smiling.

Song Zhen had kicked things off with a strong start, and the others were performing brilliantly as well.

Now, for the Gold Core stage, all the top contenders were from the Mystic Cloud Sword Sect. No matter who won or lost, the sect would take the crown.

Hahaha! Once they returned, he’d have bragging rights—he was the first elder to lead disciples to claim the top spot!

With both contenders being from her own sect, Song Zhen lost interest and wandered down to the other stands.

Everyone saw her running back and forth, sometimes cheering wildly, sometimes sighing in disappointment. She was way more invested in other people’s matches than in her own.

Meanwhile, the two disciples vying for the Gold Core top spot had eyes blazing red.
Even though they were from the same sect, who wouldn’t want to be number one?

“Senior Brother, this time the top spot is mine!”

“Junior Sister, that’s not so certain.”

Their eyes locked in a fierce battle, and it was intense—absolutely no holding back.
