It turned out just as Lara had predicted.
“Hey! The receptionist fainted standing up again!”
When we presented the Dark Demon at the counter, it caused an even bigger uproar than when we brought in the Hydra.
“Wh-Where… did you find something this insane?”
“In the depths of Payago Cave.”
“Depths? You mean… you went to the lower levels?”
“We did.”
“You what?! That place is nicknamed the ‘Cave of No Return’! No adventurer who’s gone to the lower levels has ever come back! And yet… well, I guess it’s pointless saying that to you.”
“Also, these are the Skeleton Kings… er, ‘Undying Kings’ we killed on the way back. There are six of them.”
“I don’t even know what’s happening anymore!”
After that, the Guild staff was in a mad rush trying to deal with the Dark Demon.
“Can we go now?”
“W-Wait! We still need to talk about your reward! …But, I’m sorry. We can’t prepare a reward equivalent to this right away. Can you wait a little? I think we can have it ready in about a week…”
We’ll be gone from this city in a week.
So, it was decided that the reward for the Dark Demon would be sent to the Royal Capital’s Guild for us at a later date.
“Also… I need to contact the mayor of this neutral city! Wait, where are you going?!”
This was getting more complicated, and it would be a pain to let it drag on. I’d gladly accept the reward, but I didn’t do any of this to be thanked.
“Lara, Marise. Let’s head back to the inn for today.”
“Y-Yeah… Did we… maybe do something totally insane again?”
“I don’t think it’s a ‘maybe,’ Marise said. “I think we definitely did.”
We turned our backs on the still-chaotic Guild and left.
