Volume 6Epilogue
We got back to the venue to find it in complete uproar.
“What in the world is that boy?!”
“In that bout with the Sword God Emperor just now, rapid-fire Level 8s… and then riding out on a dragon’s back…”
“Sasha-sama and Headmaster Merlin… those people must have put the monsters down, certainly… but a boy in that party… of all things…”
Everyone was saying everything at once. Well, as things stood nearly every eye in the building was fixed on me.
No, there’s the dragons, and why a colossus appeared at all, and why the Leviathans did, and why every one of them then vanished into thin air. They must have things to wonder about other than me…
At this rate I’m going to stand out… And then I laughed quietly at myself, because this is well past the point where I get to say that.
Well, standing out can’t be helped now. It’ll be a certain amount of bother, but that’s that. I was always going to end up on the public stage as myself sooner or later.
And the moment we set down on the platform, the Society grandees came hurrying over.
Straight into the nuisance, then… Questions first, presumably, and no idea how to field them. That was the easy line my thoughts were taking when—
“Out of nowhere, huh. Earth God Emperor.”
“Losing the Fire God Emperor was a blow, but that shackle on your magic aptitude looks nicely off, Thunder God Emperor.”
He got up onto the platform ahead of every last one of the Society men.
He isn’t in the shape I saw him in last. Like the Fire God Emperor, he’s abnormally young.
Well, the Fire God Emperor went for a boy, this one for a young man… Fine.
“…What are you after?”
“Oh, I’m after a number of things… but first—there’s something I want to show you.”
“Something to show me?”
And as the Earth God Emperor beckoned with a “Come here,” one child… with a face far too well made, came flying over from the spectator seats on flight magic.
“…You there, Earth God Emperor… What’s this supposed to mean? This child is… don’t tell me…”
The Earth God Emperor nodded broadly, as if to say that’s right.
“The Fire God Emperor’s little sister, and your wife: Bridget. And also—the very one who made every giant that faced you on this island disappear.”
“…What are you talking about?”
He didn’t answer me. He turned a bright, gentle smile on Bridget instead.
“Go on, Bridget. Say hello first.”
At that Bridget turned to face me and tilted her head. And then, sounding faintly puzzled, she said:
“Nice to meet you… is it? …No matter. Nice to meet you—big brother.”
